Pickleball Rules
The use of pickleball courts comes with risk for serious injury. Players accessing the courts do so at their own risk and waive, indemnify and agree to not hold Sun Vista RV Park from any and all liability resulting from participation in this activity or use of the courts or equipment.
Court hours are 8AM to 10 PM from October 1 to April 30. Club play is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to Noon from Monday to Saturday and otherwise as noted on the schedule. Club Membership is required to play during scheduled times.
The pickleball courts are provided primarily for the use of residents. Sun Vista residents (owners or renters) or their guests accessing courts must have their Sun Vista Photo ID badges available at the courts.
Sun Vista residents may invite up to two guests from outside the park to play pickleball during non-scheduled or open hours. This rule does not apply to immediate members of a resident family who are in the resort for a short period of time.
Only Club Members can play during club scheduled times or participate in club events and tournaments. Non-club members may use the courts during open play shown on the court schedules for the upper and lower courts.
During Club time the upper courts are reserved for lessons and for Novice to Intermediate players.
During Club time the lower courts are reserved for Intermediate to Advanced players.
For the 2023-24 season we have implemented changes to access to how players will access the courts. In the past it has been mentioned that the paddle board system for court assignment was not working as intended. The Gold/Silver designations on the board was not achieving the objective of getting players of similar skill level the opportunity to play together.
We will have two categories on the board:
- Intermediate
- Advanced
Winning or losing a game will not be the determining factor on where you put your paddle. If you are intermediate player your paddle will go on the Intermediate side of the board and advanced players paddles will go on the advanced side of the board.
This is not intended to stop individuals from playing with players of different skills level from playing with each other and, such play is encouraged. However, it is intended to give all players the opportunity of playing to their skill set.
For the 2023-24 one of the courts will be designated a challenge court. This will provide opportunities for players to compete at a more advanced level based on a challenge system.
The rules for the Challenge Court are as follows:
- To begin, four players put their paddles on the Challenge Court Paddle Board. As soon as the court is available it becomes the challenge court.
- Winners stay on the court and two other players may put their paddles on the board to challenge the winners.
- Winners must exit the court after two consecutive wins but are eligible to continue playing unless there are four players on the challenge board waiting to play.
- Winners can continue to play together or split up and play with the challengers, it is their choice.
If the Challenge Court is not be used for a Challenge Game it can be used for open play.
Sun Vista R.V. Park supports the development of players at all levels and encourages the use of our courts for Tournament, Inter- Park and Advanced player competitions. Court use shall be shown on the court schedules on this Web Site.
Only residents or overnight guests registered with the park are entitled to take lessons offered by the Park. There is a charge of $5.00 per player for Learn to Play Lessons
Lessons or clinics provided by or through the Sun Vista Pickleball Club are for Club Members only. There is a charge of $5.00 per player for a lesson. The cost of clinics sponsored by the club and provided by third parties will be based on the cost to the club.
Round robin and drop-in play from 8-11 am daily is restricted to Sun Vista residents and their overnight adult guests only, from Nov. 1 to April 30th.
The Sun Vista Pickleball club has access and governs the use of the courts from 8:00 a.m. to 10 pm from Monday to Saturday each week and for sanctioned activities including, but not restricted to, Tournaments, Clinics and other club events. Open Play slots are available for member and non-member residents play.
Sanctioned Club activities are for members, unless otherwise specified. If not all courts are being used by Sanctioned play, you may use the open court, but must relinquish it if it is needed by the Sanctioned Activity.
Suitable footwear must be worn on the courts at all times. (Court or running shoes)
Fair and equitable play shall prevail during open time to ensure that all groups of players have access to the courts. Players may play as groups or as individuals. Groups may continue to play on a court as long as other courts are available. When players are waiting to play and all courts are in use players shall leave the court upon completion of a game to 11 points. (Winning by 2 points is not required)
