Sun Vista Pickleball Club

SV Pickleball Club is exclusive to the residents of Sun Vista RV Resort.

History of SV Pickleball Club:

The SV Pickleball club unofficially began shortly after the upper two courts were built. I began organizing in park Round Robins (RR), and PB tournaments as a volunteer, as we had lots of players and only two courts. As well, we invited Del Pueblo in for tournaments, and they in turn had us come to their park for tournaments. After the tournament the guest park was invited to join in for a luncheon (usually hot dogs). A great time was had by all.

As PB became more and more popular, the Park built three more courts in the “Fun Park” now called the “lower courts”.  Jean Metzer loved to teach and so she began giving PB lessons on the upper courts. I went to the lower courts and organized Round Robin and Ladder Play.

I’m not sure when we began calling our group SV Pickleball Club. We wanted to have various levels of competition, so players of similar ability could play with each other. But we did not want it to separate us by skill level to the point of not playing with anyone not at our skill level. There was a desire for friendly organized competition, so we called it ‘SV Pickleball Club’, and anyone wanting to play organized PB could be a member of the Club by paying a small fee. We have Open RR, Intermediate RR, Intermediate/Advanced RR, Ladder and Advanced Inter- Park play.

We are well passed the Covid pandemic and we anticipate that PB will continue to grow at Sun Vista RV Resort.  When that happens, it will necessitate more scheduled court times, and I would suggest that SV Pickleball Club be used for this task. I mentioned before, that I am a volunteer as “lower court coordinator” and am happy to continue as long as you want me and I am able. As the club keeps growing, there may be a need for more help to organize and schedule play, perhaps even have a more formal club where we officially appoint people to lead. I guess we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

I mentioned earlier that we started charging a small fee to be a member of SV Pickleball Club. There are some changes at SV RV Resort that has necessitated a small increase in SVPB Club fees to $10, but beyond that, the park has declined to help with the maintenance funding, so we have started a SVPB Maintenance Fund. We are asking all PB Players at SV RV Resort to pay a $10 per player maintenance fee so we can maintain the court facilities. To date we have added 4 additional wind screens at the lower courts, and have purchased a leaf blower to blow dust and water off the courts. This work is done by Pickle Ball Player volunteers. We have a great group of players and getting volunteers is not an issue.

When residents have family or guests in the park, they may play in SV Pickleball Club events by paying a $5 fee for the duration of their stay in the park.
